Fall Festivities in Full Swing: Albion’s Late-October Lineup

The final stretch of October is here, and Albion is geared up for plenty of events. From council meetings, to potlucks and banquets, to trick or treating on Superior Street – this fall is set to feature a solid lineup of events.

Albion City Council Meeting

A regular meeting of the Albion City Council tonight at 7:00pm at the Marshall Opportunity High School on 225 E. Watson Street kicks off a busy week of community events.

Citizens to Beautify Albion Potluck

Tuesday evening, October 21st, the Citizens to Beautify Albion have their annual potluck Tuesday October 21 at St James Episcopal Church, 119 W Erie St to which the community is invited. The group will meet at 6:00pm and eat at 6:30pm.

BCAAR Home Ownership Workshop & Dinner
Also on Tuesday, October 21st, the Battle Creek Area Association of Realtors is offering a free home ownership workshop at the Albion Housing Commission located at 1300 Cooper Street in Albion. Dinner will be served at 5:30 PM. The presentation will begin at 6:00pm. The workshop is free and open to the public. An RSVP is required.

Albion Historical Society Meeting
On Wednesday evening, October 22nd, the Albion Historical Society will welcome Wendy Zielen who will be giving a talk entitled “Bravery and Innovation: Early Aviation Heroes” at Stirling Books and Brew, 119 N. Superior Street. Beginning at 6:30pm, this talk will explore “the fascinating journey through the early days of flight when daring pioneers pushed the boundaries of what was possible,” also highlighting Albion’s connection to the Tuskegee Airmen.

Odd Brothers Cider Tasting at Bohm Theatre
Also taking place Wednesday night on Superior Street, is a Hard Cider Tasting with Odd Brothers at the Bohm Theatre. This event offers an opportunity to discover new favorites, learn about Odd Brothers’ innovative approach to cider making, and connect with others who share a passion for locally crafted beverages. Tickets cost $25 and include 4 cider tastings and 4 mini-pairings.

Fall Festival at Whitehouse Nature Center
On Saturday, October 25th, from 10am to 2pm the Whitehouse Nature Center will be hosting a Fall Festival with pumpkin carving, snacks, crafts and a special exhibit of live animals that fit the season from the Leslie Science and Nature Center. They promise that if you come back at dark, they will light up the trail with jack o lanterns. The Albion College Whitehouse Nature Center is on Farley Drive in Albion.

Albion NAACP 52nd Annual Freedom Fund Banquet
Another event taking place on the 25th is NAACP’s 52nd Annual Freedom Fund Banquet. The event will be taking place in Albion College’s Upper Baldwin Hall, beginning at 6:00pm. Tickets are $45, with proceeds going toward the local branch’s ongoing community programs. Guests will enjoy dining service and hear from a former Michigan State Representative, who will speak on this year’s theme: ‘The Fierce Urgency of Now.’

Sweets on Superior Street
Kicking off this year’s Halloween Trick-or-Treating festivities, Sweets on Superior presented by BlueOx Credit Union will be taking place on Sunday, October 26th downtown Albion on Superior Street from 1pm to 3pm. The road will be closed off as many local businesses and organizations will be handing out sweet treats and candy. This year’s theme is Witches & Warlocks.

Albion Community Trailblazer Award Ceremony
Also on Sunday October 26th, at 3pm, Albion Community Trailblazers will present awards Sunday, October 26, 3:00pm at Bethel Baptist Church, 523 Washington St. The honorees, for outstanding accomplishments throughout the years, in various areas within the Albion Community, are: Elijah Armstrong Jr., Odessa Brown, Renita Craig, Arthur and Vivian Davis, Bobby and Justine McKenzie, Hilda Miller, Timothy Pledger, and Glen and Leslie Williams.

Trunk-or-Treat with Local Dealerships
On Monday, October 27th, local car dealerships College Chevrolet and Albion Ford will be joining forces to offer a trunk-or-treat event located in the College Chevy parking lot. Expect to see plenty of people handing out candy from decorated trunks, with food trucks and dirty soda available as well. The event runs from 6pm to 8pm, is free, and open to the public.

Albion College Spooktacular
Rounding out the month, Albion College will be hosting a festive Halloween celebration. Spooktacular returns to the campus quad, with various student organizations handing out candy to trick-or-treaters from 5:15pm to 6:30pm. There will also be a Thriller Dance Show beginning at 6pm, which community members are welcome to participate in. Information on dance rehearsals can be found here.
