The momentum continues with the Piano Studio Recital, a program that highlights the focus and artistry of Albion’s piano students.

Seven student pianists—Ian MacDonald, Brandon Blake, Ben Harkness, Caemon McKeel, Autumn Eles, Samuel Lynch, and Tiffany Fang—will present the solo works they’ve prepared throughout the semester, followed by short piano duets with their instructor, Dr. David Abbott, featuring marches, polonaises, and other pieces by Franz Schubert.

59th Annual Festival of Lessons and Carols

  • Time: December 7, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
  • Place: Goodrich Chapel

Rounding out the week is a cherished holiday tradition: the 59th Annual Festival of Lessons and Carols. Featuring the Concert Choir and Briton Singers, this event blends choral music with readings. Jacqueline Livesay will join as the guest organist.

The Service of Nine Lessons and Carols was designed by Archbishop E. W. Benson for use in the cathedral at Truro, England. The first formal event was held there on Christmas Eve, 1880. The service was later simplified and modified for use in King’s College Chapel, Cambridge, in 1918.

The late David L. Strickler introduced the service to Albion College in 1966, and it has been a cherished tradition ever since.

There will be a free reception after the concert with over a thousand cookies to sample in the nearby First United Methodist Church’s Wesley Lounge. What a beautiful way to mark the start of the season and enjoy a time-honored performance!
